Steering Rack

A mechanical assembly converting steering wheel rotation into lateral wheel movement.

The steering rack transforms the circular motion of the steering wheel into side-to-side motion for the wheels. It consists of a gear mechanism and tie rods. Hydraulic or electric assist reduces driver effort. Wear or leaks cause looseness, vibration, or fluid loss. Rebuilding or replacing the rack restores precise control. Proper wheel alignment after installation ensures correct steering geometry. A well-maintained rack provides accurate handling and driving stability.
