Oxygen Sensor (O2 Sensor)

A sensor that measures oxygen concentration in the exhaust gases.

The O2 sensor provides feedback to the ECU for adjusting air-fuel ratios. Located in the exhaust manifold or catalytic converter, it monitors combustion efficiency. Faulty sensors cause increased fuel consumption and emissions. Modern vehicles use both upstream and downstream sensors for precise control. Replacing aging sensors at recommended intervals restores proper engine operation. Understanding O2 sensor data helps identify rich or lean conditions, aiding efficient troubleshooting.
