Master Cylinder

A hydraulic device that converts brake pedal pressure into brake fluid pressure.

The master cylinder forms the heart of the brake system, transferring mechanical pedal force into hydraulic pressure for the calipers. It contains reservoirs and pistons that distribute fluid through brake lines. Worn seals cause internal leaks and a spongy pedal feel. Rebuilding or replacing the master cylinder restores firm pedal action. Bleeding air from the system ensures consistent pressure. Regular brake fluid replacement prevents corrosion and extends component life.
