Idle Air Control Valve (IAC)

A valve that regulates air bypassing the throttle during idle.

The IAC valve maintains a stable idle speed by controlling the amount of air entering the engine when the throttle is closed. It adjusts based on engine load, temperature, and accessory use. Carbon buildup or mechanical failure can cause erratic idle or stalling. Cleaning or replacing the valve restores smooth operation. Modern vehicles often integrate IAC control within electronic throttle systems. A functioning IAC valve ensures consistent idle and prevents low-speed stalling.
