Timing Light
A strobe light used to adjust ignition timing in gasoline engines.

A timing light flashes in sync with spark plug firing, illuminating the timing marks on the crankshaft pulley. Adjusting the distributor or ECU advance ensures optimal ignition timing for performance and efficiency. Proper timing prevents engine knocking and improves throttle response. Though less common on modern engines with electronic timing, timing lights remain essential for classic and modified vehicles. Technicians also use them to verify camshaft timing accuracy.
